No one should have to choose between warmth and food.

Across the Inland Empire, unhoused individuals sleep through freezing nights without adequate cover, and families in under-insulated homes make impossible choices between heating bills and groceries. Children go to school in thin jackets because winter coats aren’t in the budget. The Winter Warmth Drive exists to close that gap — providing new coats, blankets, and thermal essentials through verified shelter partners and community organizations. Every item is purchased by the Foundation and delivered where the need is documented, so no one faces winter without protection.

Winter Warmth Drive program support

About this program

The Winter Warmth Drive is a seasonal initiative under the Foundation’s Housing Stability & Eviction Prevention pillar. Each winter, the Foundation distributes new coats, blankets, thermal bedding, and cold-weather accessories through verified shelters and community partner organizations across Riverside County. All items are purchased directly by the Foundation from approved vendors — no cash is distributed to individuals. Distribution is coordinated through shelter intake systems and community outreach organizations to ensure supplies reach those with the greatest documented need. Assistance is not guaranteed and is subject to program capacity, available inventory, and verified need.

Our approach

How this program delivers

When temperatures drop, thousands of families and individuals in the Inland Empire face winter without adequate coats, blankets, or heating — a need that is urgent, measurable, and preventable.

The Winter Warmth Drive distributes new coats, blankets, and thermal supplies through verified shelter partners and community organizations — vendor-purchased, never cash, and tracked from warehouse to recipient.

Every item distributed is documented. Supporters can see exactly how their contributions translate into warmth through the Foundation’s transparency reporting.

Who this program serves

  • Unhoused individuals in Riverside County facing winter nights without adequate cover or warmth
  • Families with inadequate heating or insulation in their homes during cold-weather months
  • Seniors on fixed incomes unable to afford both heating costs and winter clothing
  • Children in under-insulated homes who need coats, layers, and warm bedding to stay healthy through winter

What support looks like

  • New coats and jackets distributed by size through shelter and community partners
  • Blankets and thermal bedding for individuals and families through verified distribution sites
  • Winter accessories — scarves, gloves, hats, and thermal socks — included in cold-weather kits
  • Shelter supply support for partner organizations serving unhoused populations during peak winter months

How we verify need

  • Shelter partner intake and needs documentation for individuals and families seeking warmth supplies
  • Community outreach organization referrals within Riverside County’s human services network
  • Foundation distribution documentation — item counts, partner sites, and recipient verification
  • Partner compliance review to ensure supplies reach verified populations and are not resold or diverted

How funds are delivered

Acts of Kindness Foundation administers all funds and supplies for the Winter Warmth Drive with full discretion over allocation, purchasing, and distribution. The Foundation purchases all items directly from approved vendors and coordinates distribution exclusively through verified shelter partners and community organizations. No cash is distributed to individuals or families. Assistance is subject to program capacity, available inventory, and verified need — this initiative does not constitute an entitlement or guarantee of service. All vendor purchases, distribution records, and partner compliance documentation are maintained and reported through the Foundation’s transparency page.

What geographic area does this initiative serve?

The Winter Warmth Drive primarily serves communities across Riverside County, with distribution partners in Moreno Valley, Riverside, Perris, and surrounding Inland Empire areas. Specific service areas are determined by partner capacity and documented need.
