When the rain doesn’t stop and the hillside gives way, Oʻahu families need real help — fast.

Oʻahu’s geography makes it uniquely vulnerable to flash flooding and mudslides. Heavy rains saturate steep terrain, sending mud and debris into neighborhoods with little warning. Roads flood, homes fill with water and silt, and families are displaced from communities where many have lived for generations. For households already stretched thin, the cost of cleanup alone can be overwhelming — to say nothing of temporary shelter and replacing destroyed essentials. The Oʻahu Flood & Mudslide Relief initiative activates under the Foundation’s Rapid Disaster Response pillar when county disaster declarations confirm community impact. We work with local Oʻahu partners and approved vendors to deliver cleanup kits, coordinate temporary shelter, and provide essential supplies — fast, verified, and fully documented.

About this program

Supports verified households on Oʻahu after floods and mudslides with cleanup resources, temporary shelter coordination, and essential supplies through local partners. This initiative activates under the Foundation’s Rapid Disaster Response & Recovery pillar when county disaster declarations confirm community-level impact. Cleanup kits include mops, buckets, bleach, gloves, and debris removal supplies. Temporary shelter is coordinated through verified local partners and approved facilities. Essential supplies including food, water, and hygiene items are distributed through partner networks. All assistance is Foundation-administered with full discretion over allocation and is subject to program capacity, verified need, and active disaster declarations.

Our approach

How this program delivers

Floods and mudslides on Oʻahu can destroy homes, block roads, and leave families stranded in hours. This initiative activates when county declarations confirm the impact — delivering cleanup resources, shelter coordination, and essentials through partners already serving the community.

Every dollar moves through Foundation-approved vendors and local Oʻahu partners. Cleanup kits, lodging, and supplies are procured and delivered directly — never as cash to individuals.

We publish activation criteria, partner reporting, and allocation summaries so supporters know exactly how their generosity helped Oʻahu families recover.

Have questions?

What supporters ask

How does the Foundation decide when to activate this initiative?

Activation is triggered by county disaster declarations confirming flood or mudslide impact on Oʻahu. The Foundation coordinates with local partners to verify community-level need before deploying resources.

What is included in a cleanup kit?

Kits include mops, buckets, bleach, gloves, trash bags, and debris removal supplies. Contents may vary based on availability and Foundation discretion.

Can Oʻahu residents request help directly?

No. All assistance is coordinated through verified local partner agencies and community intake processes. The Foundation does not accept direct applications. This is a charitable initiative, not an entitlement program.

Does this initiative cover home rebuilding or structural repair?

No. This initiative focuses on immediate cleanup, temporary shelter, and essential supplies. Structural repair and rebuilding fall outside the scope of this program. The Foundation may coordinate referrals to partner agencies for longer-term recovery.

Is assistance guaranteed to every affected household?

No. This is a charitable initiative, not an entitlement program. Assistance is subject to program capacity, verified need, and Foundation discretion. Not every affected household will necessarily receive support.

How does the Foundation coordinate with FEMA?

When federal disaster designations are issued, the Foundation coordinates with FEMA data to verify scope and avoid duplication of services. FEMA coordination supplements — but does not replace — the Foundation’s independent verification process through local partners.
